Things To Keep In Mind Whilst EnjoyingYour Own
Spa!
Informed consumers are concerned about safety because serious injuries and
even death can result from unsafe use of spas and hot tubs and associated
products. Here are some examples:
- DROWNING - Drowning is the third leading cause of
accidental death for children under five. The water depth of a spa or hot
tub is sufficient for drowning to occur. Be especially careful with
children under five.
- ELEVATED BODY TEMPERATURE - Soaking for too long at too
high a temperature can elevate body temperature and temperature of internal
organs beyond safe limits. Infants and children are especially sensitive to
high temperatures, as are people with certain medical conditions such as
pregnant women, diabetics, heart patients and those taking certain
prescription medicines.
- ENTRAPMENT - Suction from inlet and outlet grates,
returns and drains can cause entrapment of hair or body parts, resulting in
drowning.Thats why all spas are required to have a second "safety" suction
or skimmer fitted, so if one gets block the other suction will do the work
and allow whatever is attatched to it to be withdrawn.
- BURNS/FIRES - Chemicals needed for clean, sanitized
water are potentially harmful when stored or used improperly. If mixed with
other chemicals or elements, explosions and fire can occur.
- ELECTRICAL SHOCK/ELECTROCUTION - Water is an excellent
conductor of electricity. Electrical shock or electrocution can occur in a
spa or hot tub if live electrical current (including current from a
telephone) comes into contact with the water. Do not attempt to access or
touch any electrical component in your spa.
- CUTS, CONTUSIONS AND ABRASIONS - The spa or hot tub
environment can be a source of injury to users. Slipping and falling can
result in cuts or scraps, or broken legs and arms. Horseplay, improper use
of equipment or failure to follow manufactures' instructions or warnings
can result in serious trauma or permanent disabling injuries.
You can help assure that your family and guest are not victims of any of
these unfortunate accidents.
- Never heat your spa or hot tub above 40Deg C.
- Be Very Careful drinking alcohol while using! Your blood temperature
could be raised depending on temperature of spa and therefore causing
increased blood circulation speed, getting the alcohol through your body
much faster than normal body temperature.
- Limit your time in the spa or hot tub to 30 minutes.
- Maintain a proper sanitizer level at all times
- Do not combine different chemicals before adding to the water.
- Always add chemicals to water, not water to chemicals.
- Always take spa cover off for at least 15-25 minutes when adding
chemicals to water, to prevent headrest and hard cover damage and also to
let the gases evaporate.
- Always store chemicals according to the manufacturers' label instructions
and keep them out of reach of children.
- If you are pregnant, have high blood pressure, or a cardiovascular
condition, consult your physician prior to using the spa.
- Do not allow children to use the spa without adult supervision.
- Add each chemical separately.
- If you can always shower before entering, or have a tub of fresh clean
water atleast besides the spa to dip your feet into before entering. This
stops dirt, Sand, Grit, Oils, Shampoos, deodarants from getting into vital
parts of the spa and causing damage in the long run.
